LITIGATION SUPPORT

For as long as there have been litigators there have been professions to support them. Clerks, court reporters, secretaries, and investigators were among the earliest support staff. In the 1980's came the start of the paralegal profession and a break off group of information technologists who focused on the legal computing environment. Finally, in the 1990's, Litigation Support carved a niche of its own, combining selected skills of both the paralegal and IT provider.

FEDERAL RULES OF EVIDENCE

The current version of the Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE 2017), originally enacted in 1975 and as amended to the present. These rules require corporations to produce documents in legal cases or face stiff penalties, raising yet another regulatory compliance issue for IT departments.
